EduBox Cup: Young Innovators Demonstrate How Artificial Intelligence Can Transform Healthcare

P1013238 | EduBox Cup: Young Innovators Demonstrate How Artificial Intelligence Can Transform Healthcare

The EduBox Cup is designed to promote AI literacy in secondary schools and motivate students to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges. The event was jointly organized by NVIASTieto, and the Moravian-Silesian Technological Academy.

The growing popularity of artificial intelligence among young people was clearly reflected in this year’s competition. A total of 11 regional rounds were held across the Czech Republic, with the best teams advancing to the national finals.

Four Hours to Solve a Real-World Challenge

The Ostrava regional round brought together 15 secondary school teams, who were given a challenging assignment focused on the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Within just four hours, the teams had to design a technical solution, develop a business plan, prepare economic analyses, and consider the ethical implications of their proposal.

The competition tested not only participants’ technical knowledge but also their ability to work as a team, analyze complex problems, present ideas effectively, and think critically about the broader impact of modern technologies.

Technology Must Help People

The competition featured a variety of innovative and practical solutions. Several teams focused on the use of AI in analyzing X-ray images in hospitals, where artificial intelligence could assist healthcare professionals in identifying potential medical issues more quickly and accurately.

However, participants looked beyond the technological aspects alone. Significant attention was devoted to the economic viability of their solutions, including funding models, operational costs, and long-term sustainability.

Ethics also played a crucial role in the evaluation process. The young innovators agreed that artificial intelligence should not replace doctors or healthcare professionals but should serve as a tool to support faster and more accurate decision-making. Responsibility for final decisions must always remain in the hands of qualified experts.

Support from Industry Experts

The event was opened by Michal Křemen from Tieto, who introduced the company’s activities and highlighted the importance of digital technologies for the future careers of young people.

The Moravian-Silesian Technological Academy was represented by its Chairman, Jan Meca, while Pavel Könnigwelcomed participants on behalf of NVIAS. All speakers agreed that AI literacy and the ability to critically engage with modern technologies will be among the most important competencies in the years ahead.
