On June 19–20, a professional workshop for secondary school teachers focused on developing cybersecurity education was held in Ostrava. The event was organized by the Moravian-Silesian Technological Academy (MTA) and was aimed primarily at educators looking to engage more deeply in this vital topic.
Day One: Tools, Scenarios, and Practical Skills
The workshop began on Thursday morning with registration and networking. Participants were then divided into two thematic blocks. In the main hall, Radim Juchelka, head of the MTA Cybersecurity Team, opened the event with a keynote presentation about MTA’s vision and hands-on experience.
In the second block, participants explored the TryHackMe learning platform and the EduBox: Cybersecurity module. The session was led by Lukáš Lanča (MUNI) and Václav Návrat (SPŠEI Ostrava), who introduced methods for interactive teaching using these tools.
The afternoon featured hands-on workshops. Michal Kunc introduced the basics of penetration testing, David Chrástecký presented the Hacfinity Battle competition format, and Tomáš Soušek guided attendees through network simulations using the GNS3 environment.
The day concluded with a scenario-based training in a simulated Security Operation Centre and a team competition called MTA School Battle, which replicated real-world conditions of cybersecurity contests.
Day Two: Reflection and Deeper Understanding
Friday’s program began with a workshop evaluation led by Radim Juchelka. This was followed by a keynote lecture from PhDr. Andrej Drbohlav (IBSARO, IBSTERA) titled “The Transformation of a Child’s Mind”. The talk addressed the impact of the digital world on children’s and adolescents’ mental health, including how cyberspace influences behavior, relationships, and motivation.
Why Cybersecurity?
Cybersecurity is becoming a critical topic not only in the corporate world but also in education. Through EduBoxes and workshops, MTA strengthens teachers’ preparedness for the challenges of the 21st century and supports them in delivering complex topics in an engaging and accessible way.
We thank all participants and instructors—together, we are building a more resilient digital society, starting right in our schools.
