On Thursday, September 25, 2025, the first round of thematic round tables organized by the Moravian-Silesian Technological Academy across the region concluded at the Secondary Technical School on Kolofíkovo embankment in Opava. This session focused on two key areas: engineering and 3D printing – topics that are becoming essential parts of modern vocational education.
Opening Remarks and Regional Support
The event began with a welcome speech from Josef Vondál, the headmaster of the host school, followed by Jan Veřmiřovský, Deputy Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region for Education and Sports, who emphasized the importance of innovation in education. The opening session was concluded by Jan Meca, Director of the Moravian-Silesian Technological Academy, who reminded attendees that the MTA has long supported schools in adopting new technologies, particularly through the EduBox platform and targeted professional activities.
EduBox Engineering: Industry 4.0 Made Understandable and Practical
The first expert session was led by Lukáš Gřondil, head of the EduBox Engineering team. In his presentation, he introduced:
- current data and challenges of Czech vocational education in the field of engineering,
- specific solutions using the EduBox, which simulates real-life production processes for students,
- an educational application that allows students to work with technical documentation, production planning, and other tools.
Lukáš Gřondil’s presentation demonstrated that modern engineering education can be both practical and accessible – and most importantly, attractive to new generations.
EduBox 3D Printing: When Technology Inspires
The second session was led by Marek Pagáč, one of the leading experts in 3D printing in the Czech Republic. His presentation covered:
- the current development and status of the 3D printing market,
- opportunities for using this technology in schools,
- a future outlook, including the application of 3D printing in construction.
Jakub Andrle joined the session to present a new teaching aid for 3D scanning, which the Moravian-Silesian Technological Academy will lend to schools free of charge. This tool generated great interest, sparking a lively discussion among headmasters and teachers about teacher training (so-called dissemination).
The model of combining equipment lending with professional support is proving to be a highly effective way of introducing cutting-edge technologies into classrooms quickly and efficiently.
Excursion to Prestar: Industry in Practice
The event concluded with an excursion to the engineering company Prestar in Opava. Participants were personally welcomed by CEO Vladimír Nekuda, who offered insight into the inner workings of a modern production facility. School principals had the opportunity to observe:
- the entire production process in full operation,
- the company’s recruitment and training strategies,
- specific skill requirements for future employees.
This part of the event was crucial for bridging theory and practice – exactly what the Moravian-Silesian Technological Academy strives to achieve through its long-term activities.
Key Takeaways
The round table confirmed that vocational education in the region has the ambition, potential, and concrete tools to keep up with technological advancements. Whether it’s digital learning in engineering or the implementation of new technologies like 3D printing, the region is on the right path toward future-ready education.
