In February, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava hosted the regional round of the FIRST LEGO League Challenge competition. Nine teams from the Moravian-Silesian Region took part in the tournament. The event was also supported by the Moravian-Silesian Technological Academy as a partner.

FIRST LEGO League is designed for young teams that combine robotics, technical thinking, and innovation project development. Participants compete in three main areas: Robot Game, Innovation Project, and Robot Design. An essential part of the evaluation also includes the so-called Core Values, which focus on teamwork, communication, and mutual respect.

Category Results

The award for the Best Innovation Project went to Team GMO from Mendel Grammar School in Opava, who impressed the judges with both the quality of their solution and their presentation.

In the Robot Design category and in the Robot Game, Team Kybernauti B from VSB–TUO achieved the highest scores. Their technical solution and competition strategy during the robot runs secured them the top ranking.

For exemplary teamwork and strong demonstration of the competition’s Core Values, Team Katarakta from the Secondary Technical School and Business Academy in Bruntál received special recognition.

Overall Results and Advancement

The overall winner of the regional tournament was Team Kybernauti B, mentored by instructors from VSB–TUO. The second team advancing to the national finals is Team GMO from Opava. Both teams will represent the Moravian-Silesian Region in the next round of the competition.

We would like to thank all participating teams for their preparation, dedication, and active involvement. The competition not only showcased technical skills but also provided an opportunity for teams and schools to share experiences.

FIRST LEGO League has long supported the development of technical thinking, creativity, and collaboration among young people. The regional tournament in Ostrava once again confirmed the strong interest of schools and learners in robotics and innovation.
