As part of the CaBatt project (Capacity Building for Battery Teachers in Vocational Education and Training) in cooperation with the local Skellefteå kommun, VUX adult education centre and Northvolt in Skellefteå (Sweden), a member of the electromobility team participated in practical exercises and workshops on the topic of battery production not only for electric vehicles.
About 30 teachers of technical subjects across Europe participated in the event. Here they learned how battery production is carried out in the local gigafactory, from the chemical processing of raw materials to the final battery cell. As only one teacher was from an English-speaking country, the teachers also improved their technical English. They also covered lithium-ion battery technology.
The Gigafactory Northvolt in Skellefteå has been producing batteries since 2019. They produce about 60GWh of battery energy per year, which would be enough for 1,000,000 electric cars.
The trip was funded by the TPA project – Innovation Centre for Transforming Education – CZ.10.03.01/00/22_003/0000072.
